We only wanted to start our company if we could use sustainable & honest cotton and more importantly that our butchers are proud and happy to make it for us & you. That’s why our awesome basics use cotton from The Better Cotton Initiative (BCI).
The Better Cotton Initiative (BCI) — a global not-for-profit organisation — is the largest cotton sustainability programme in the world. BCI exists to make global cotton production better for the people who produce it, better for the environment it grows in and better for the sector’s future. BCI aims to transform cotton production worldwide by developing Better Cotton as a sustainable mainstream commodity.
And there is more. We did not just want honest and sustainable cotton but also wanted our butchers (some located in Portugal and some in the FE) to be happy making our/your awesome basics.
So we made sure that for the FE they were members of Business Social Compliance Initiative (BSCI) making sure everybody is happy.
What does BSCI do?
The Business Social Compliance Initiative (BSCI) is a leading supply chain management system that supports companies to drive social compliance and improvements within the factories and farms in their global supply chains. BSCI implements the principle international labour standards protecting workers’ rights such as International Labor Organization (ILO) conventions and declarations, the United Nations (UN) Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights and guidelines for multinational enterprises of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).
We use long staple American yarn. Why?
So why are long and extra-long staple cottons so desirable? Because the longer the cotton fiber, the stronger, softer, and more durable the resulting fabric.
Why are your awesome T-shirts pre-shrunk you ask.
The reason that the more expensive “pre-shrunk” cotton does not shrink in the dryer is because of a process that takes place during the fabric finishing processes. This basically gets the fabric to return to its natural state before the garment is sewn. With our cotton you get a maximum shrinkage of 3% while the cheaper brands out there can shrink up to 10%. That’s basically a whole size!
So why combed cotton?
Combed cotton is a softer version of regular cotton, made by treating the cotton fibers before they are spun into yarn. Because combed cotton requires more work and results in a higher quality, softer and tougher fabric. That why!
